As the year closes in on its final lap, IONNA—the new-kid charging network with a vision as big as the open road—has a few tales to tell about its birth year. Fueled by vintage Americana spirit and a forward-thinking drive, we’re well on our way to electrifying North America’s highways and byways. So, buckle up as we fire-up the flux capacitor, revisit our milestones, and glance toward the future road ahead.
February: Hitting the Ground Running
The year began in-gear as IONNA officially launched operations. Seth Cutler was announced as our CEO, steering the team towards a clear vision and mission: open North America’s roads to electric vehicles with the coverage drivers need, the reliability they deserve, and the amenities they crave.
June: Welcome to Durham
In June, we unveiled Durham, North Carolina, as the official headquarters for IONNA—our home sweet home, perfectly positioned to race forward into the future. Alongside this announcement, we introduced our core executive team, featuring CFO Derek Rush, CPO Ricardo Stamatti, and COO Shankar Muthukumar, each bringing their own wattage in expertise and experience.
July: Growing the Family to Eight
The IONNA family grew even larger with Toyota joining as a founding automaker alongside BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis. Together, we’re creating a network of Partners & Rechargeries to make North American roads the envy of the automotive world.
October: Breaking New Ground in Apex
We reached a pivotal milestone in October as we broke ground on our very first Rechargery in Apex, North Carolina. The site boasts ten charging bays, with space to add more when demand calls, canopies, lounges, co-working spaces, and state-of-the-art IONNA charge dispensers. It is also the place a local entrepreneur will call home, proudly hosting the full on-site experience while delighting both neighborhood and visiting drivers with locally made, fresh food.
And just as we were rolling out the red carpet for our first Rechargery, we also welcomed Jackie Slope as our new CTO, further energizing our charge into the future.
December: Partnerships and Progress
Before the holidays rolled in, we unwrapped an exciting partnership with Sheetz to bring more than 50 charging locations to the Midwest and Eastern U.S., combining our modern-day charge with their legendary road-trip fuel-ups.
Holding “IONNA speed”, we’re multitasking for a December to remember and announcing four new locations breaking ground this year:
All four, plus more, are expected to open their doors in Q1 of 2025, proving that when we say “soon,” we mean it.
And one more thing, we know the holidays are peak travel for a lot of us, so we wanted to help by opening our first four locations in a public beta starting December 27. Apex, NC; Willoughby + Springfield, OH; and Scranton, PA will be ready to recharge you into the new year with special introductory pricing beginning that day. Houston, TX and Abilene, KS will open their doors soon after.

With Rechargeries popping up faster than you can say “IONNA speed” and a commitment to keeping drivers charged, comfortable, and confident on the road ahead, we’re building a future where every journey can be electric.
